Every year in Belgium, around October 16th (World Food Day), Humundi organizes Alimenterre, a committed festival that encourages rethinking, reinventing, and mobilizing to build more sustainable, fairer, and more solidarity-based global food systems.

In collaboration with about fifty partners, the Alimenterre Festival offers film screenings followed by debates, meetings, sessions for young audiences, activities, exhibitions, mobilization actions, and festive moments in Brussels and Wallonia in Belgium.

Alimenterre
nourrishes hope
sows changes !

a festival that cultivate

a fairer world

Through its programming, Alimenterre raises awareness about the issues of small-scale farming and the (agro-)ecological transition. It also encourages enthusiasm and urgency to act in the face of a global agri-food system that is unviable for farmers, populations, and the planet.

Alimenterre carries a strong message of hope by denouncing the disruptions in the agri-food system and highlighting alternatives. It offers avenues for action at both local and global levels, as well as positive stories focused on the future. The festival is a special place for inspiring encounters, collective motivation, and festive, joyful, and friendly moments!

Join us and let yourself be inspired by a festival that opens new perspectives, full of meaning and hope.

Cinema IN THE SERVICE

OF engagement

We are aware of the power of images and their ability to touch and mobilize citizens. Through its evocative power, cinema can be a true wake-up call and an excellent tool for raising awareness. The audience can better understand and engage with the complex issues of agriculture and food.

Through this festival, Humundi also supports engaged cinematic productions. This year again, the Alimenterre Film Festival Award will recognize a documentary from our selection for its ability to raise awareness and mobilize. This award will be given by a panel of professionals and will include financial support of €2,000 as well as distribution assistance to the Belgian association sector throughout the following year, through our “Alimenterre Screening Kits.”

The festival partners: a valuable solidarity network

The Alimenterre Festival is a collective story of commitment and solidarity. Thanks to this dynamic, it has expanded in Wallonia with events in Arlon, Charleroi, Mons, Namur, Liège, and Ottignies-Louvain-La-Neuve.
This expansion is the result of the collaboration of around fifty diverse and complementary partners: cultural centers, NGOs, cinemas, environmental and feminist associations, active citizen groups, and more. A big thank you to all of them!

An event with international reach

Initiated by Humundi in Belgium, Alimenterre is also organized in France (by the NGO CFSI) and in several African countries, supported by an international network of Humundi’s partner organizations: Senegal, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Togo, Benin, Congo Brazzaville, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Chad, and Niger.

The Alimenterre dynamic transcends borders and unites citizens worldwide around the food challenges that concern us all.
