Our work in
Bolivia

Despite strong economic growth in recent years, Bolivia remains one of the poorest countries in South America. Poverty is concentrated in rural areas and particularly affects women and indigenous populations.

The current development model is based on the extraction of primary resources, with significant environmental and social impacts, particularly on local communities. The state is the central player in the economy but invests little in family farming. Agricultural production favors the export of foodstuffs rather than local, sustainable production that would ensure food security for the population.

Humundi’s work in Bolivia

Since the end of the 1990s, Humundi (formerly SOS Faim) has been supporting family farming and, more generally, peasant economic activities (crafts, small-scale processing, etc.) to combat poverty and food and nutritional insecurity in rural areas.

Humundi (formerly SOS Faim) also supports territorial development processes in several areas of the country. The aim is to strengthen farmers’ organizations and facilitate their cooperation with other local players, particularly public bodies, to establish participatory local food governance. Humundi also supports agro-ecological transition processes and supports rural financing institutions to facilitate the financing of the agro-ecological transition.
